Christopher Wheeldon and Justin Peck – two of the most prominent names in the ballet industry

This Bitter Earth is a dance duet that Christopher Wheeldon choreographed; it is from “Five Movements, Three Repeats”. The full work was created for Fang-Yi Sheu & Artists, which is Fang-Yi Sheu’s dance group. She was the principal dancer of the Martha Graham Dance Company. This performance also includes Tyler Angle, Craig Hall, and Wendy Whelan, dancers from the New York City Ballet. It accompanies an expressive and stirring score that fills the entire theatre. In 2012, The Bitter Earth premiered at the Fall Gala by NYCB.

Justin Peck is the Artistic Advisor and resident choreographer of the NYCB. His newest production is New Peck, which is here at the David H. Koch Theater for the first time. This also marks the first time for Peck and Muhly to work together and create a dance charged with emotion.

Connect with the emotions and sophistication of every ballet piece

New Liang (Davis): Formerly a soloist for the New York City Ballet and the present Artistic Director at BalletMet in Ohio, Edward Liang returns with his first-ever creation for the Company. With a captivating choreography at the 2019 Fall Fashion Gala, which was performed to composer Oliver Davis’ melodious score, Liang’s work in this production is going to leave you spellbound.

This Bitter Earth: This ballet is ripe with interestingly poetic dance choreography. This Bitter Earth showcases a dance for a couple. It explores touching and foggy melodies which accompany The Bitter Earth originally by Dinah Washington and remixed by Max Richter.

New Peck (Muhly): This ballet is undoubtedly one of the most exquisite dance shows that Justin Peck has choreographed for his latest ballet programme. His style is mixed with the famous American composer Nico Muhly’s soulful music. Their combination takes the show to a whole new level of elegance and class. Muhly’s musical prowess is also impressive, and it perfectly fits in with Peck’s choreography.

New Roberts: If you are familiar with the Alvin Alley American Dance Theatre, then you probably know Jamar Roberts. He is making his debut with his first creative piece for the NYCB this season. His choreography is known to follow a nimble style that is full of emotions, and he has been critically acclaimed by The New York Times. Jamar’s ballet is the showstopper at the annual spring gala by the Company.
