An award-winning drama by Charles Fuller

Charles Fuller wrote A Soldier’s Play as a 2-act drama which was published in 1981. In 1982, it brought him the Pulitzer Prize for drama. The play displays the overt and covert conflicts that take place between the whites and the blacks at an Army camp in Louisiana during WWII. You will immediately relate to it as it primarily focuses on how such petty disagreements limit the opportunity for both social and personal growth. This award-winning play is now in Broadway. With an immersive storyline that is vignetted by mystery, you will be tied down to your seats throughout. To watch the smash hit drama, get A Soldier’s Play Broadway tickets today.

The people involved in A Soldier’s Play

This drama is directed by Kenny Leon, who is renowned for his Broadway as well as regional works. Leon is a leading African-American Broadway director who won the Tony Award for Best Director of a Play in 2014. Leon’s direction is enriched with wonderful set design by Derek McLane. The 2014 Oscars set was his design, which won him an Emmy and Art Directors Guild Award.

When it comes down to the cast, Captain Davenport is played by Blair Underwood and Sergeant Waters by David Alan Grier. Alongside them is J. Alphonse Nicholson as Private Memphis, and Jerry O’Connell is Captain Taylor. A few others fill the roster. With Dan Moses Schreier’s compelling sound and Allen Lee Hughes’ lighting skills, the drama blooms out like a fresh flower. With such skills involved, A Soldier’s Play Broadway tickets are surely going to be a smart choice.

Hate begets hate

The story will put you in Fort Neal, Louisiana when the year is 1944 and the military is racially isolated. An already heavy atmosphere is further damaged as you witness the murder of Sergeant Waters. The killer is unknown but as Waters draws his last breath, he cries out “They still hate you!”

Captain Richard Davenport is handed over the investigation. He initially suspects the Ku Klux Klansmen to be involved in the murder, but a few intolerant soldiers also fall under suspicion as the investigation progresses. When the Captain questions the suspects and witnesses, there are flashbacks about how the Sergeant was and how he mistreated those under his command.

Waters was ambitious and intelligent, but he didn’t like his fellow black men based on the racist stereotypes so as so that he planned to have his children go to college with the whites. He was always harsh towards his men, one of which was Private C. J. Memphis. Waters did not like him just because of his smile and way of talking. One thing led to another and Memphis commits suicide, leading the others to start disliking their Sergeant.

All these elements create a long list of suspects, who might have had similar motives. But, who killed Waters and why? Find your answer by purchasing A Soldier’s Play Broadway tickets. Crime, thrill and mystery; a drama cannot get any better!
