The Rogers-Hammerstein Masterpiece

In the history of the West End musical, Carousel has achieved legendary status. Created by the iconic team of Richard Rogers and Oscar Hammerstein II, this musical is a cult classic. The story was adapted from the 1909 play Liliom by Ferenc Molnár. But Hammerstein II replaced the original Budapest setting with the Maine coastline.

The plot revolves around Billy Bigelow, the humble carousel barker who falls in love with Julie Jordan, who works at a nearby mill. But their romance costs them both of their jobs. In desperation and agony, Billy gets involved in a robbery, trying to provide for his wife and their unborn baby. Things go downhill as Billy gets caught and decides to take his own life. However, he gets a second chance in life. He was allowed to return to earth for just one day after fifteen years of his death to make everything right for his family.

What does he see when he comes back? Can he do right by his child and beloved wife? Saying ‘yes’ to those questions will ruin the masterpiece for you. Because it is not just a story, it is instead a journey of a lifetime, a saga of hope and courage. So, get the London Carousel tickets instead and find out the answers for yourself. In the end, we bet the show will fill you with the utmost joy.
