They have gifted us with one iconic drag star after another, which includes Cookie Monstar, baby, Cara Melle, Margo Marshall, Ophelia Love, and Tacey among others. To date, they have given us several stunning drag performances that feature live shows, pageants, plays, and much more. From the pouring amount of audience at each of their performances, there is no prize for guessing their popularity all around the country. Keeping up the hype, this holiday season Tuck Shop is back with yet another dazzling show—Dick Whittington Drag Panto.
After their raving and wildly popular performance Death Drop, Tuck Shop is all set to give the audience another stunning performance featuring its beloved drag queens. But this time, the stakes are even higher. This Christmas, they will be performing the beloved panto Dick Whittington live on stage. This is their second drag Cinderella that opened in 2019. This year, the scales have gone up and the world is waiting to witness another sell-out hit. So, grab your tickets before it is too late.
A Dazzling Revival of an Old Classic
As old as time, folklores have been an integral part of any culture. They live on through ages, transforming and adapting to changing times. What is once as simple as a parable, could be revamped into a stunning tale of power dynamics with a twist of flashy fantasy. That is exactly what you will get to enjoy in Dick Whittington Drag Panto.
The performance is originally based on Dick Whittington and His Cat—traditional folklore of medieval England revolving around the life of the real-life Richard Whittington, and his fable cat. Born in abject poverty, the enigmatic man went on to become one of the wealthiest merchants in the country and further, became the Lord Mayor of London. Legend says that he made way to all this wealth through a series of chance encounters, which started with the selling of his cat to a horribly rat-infested country.
Inspired by the story, the play Dick Whittington takes the audience to a land of fantasy, where the protagonist goes on to make fortunes. The Tuck Shop twist to this riveting adventure comes as a dazzling drag makeover, as well as a touch of magic. Along with his cat, Dick Whittington here in this panto is accompanied by the Spirit of Soho on his journey and fights the evil rat-queen in a mighty battle. As with any other Tuck Shop drag, you can expect all the pomp and pizzazz in the show, making it a visual delight.
All Hail the Queens!
The classic Christmas tale, written by Gareth Joyner is revived for the stage and will hit London’s Phoenix Theatre this holiday season. The Dick Whittington Drag Panto will feature former star of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK Cheryl Hole in the titular role. Beloved drag queens like Choriza May, Kitty Scott Claus, Holly Stars, and Ophelia Love will also star in this gorgeous production.
