Why Watch Hoard
Femi Elufowoju Jr. is one of the most well known British directors. With stage works featured in some of the top theaters in the country, including the Royal National Theatre, Soho Theatre, the Royal Court Theatre and many others, he brings his newest production, Hoard, to West End’s Arcola Theatre. Renowned for his prowess of capturing emotions and using family-centered themes, Hoard will undoubtedly leave you thinking about secrets between family and the unspoken tensions resulting from them. Bim Adewunmi’s writing ensures that every audience member can relate to Wura and her three daughters.
The story focuses on a close-knit family consisting of three sisters and their mother. Ami and Rafi are all set to meet Brian, the boyfriend of their little sister for the very first time. Just as they are getting ready, their mother, Wura, unexpectedly arrives. Although Wura usually shows up announced, this time it is a problem. She does not know anything about Brian.
On learning about her youngest daughter’s new boyfriend for the first time, Wura feels hurt. The secret has repercussions that lead to the three sisters and their mother to confronting old truths and tensions. Will the family go back to as they once were?
