The must-see Mean Girls musical!

The 2004 breakout hit is here with a brand new cast and quite a few characters you will love to hate, again. The Mean Girls musical is derived from the 2004 movie of the same name, starring Lindsay Lohan. In October 2017, the musical premiered at the National Theatre, Washington, D.C., and its first Broadway run began at the August Wilson Theatre in April 2018.

Just like she did for the movie, Tina Fey’s book is what the Broadway production is based on. Lyrics are provided by Nell Benjamin and music is by Jeff Richmond. Under Casey Nicholaw’s choreography and direction, Mean Girls takes you inside the life of Cady Heron, a sweet girl who joins a public school for the first time. There have been a few simple tweaks to realistically portray the lives of teenagers so addicted to social media. But, the show promises to bring to you all the elements you enjoyed in the movie.

The creatives who complete Mean Girls for the stage

As prominent as the cast is for any stage production, it is obvious that the production has to be up to the mark as well. The same goes for the Mean Girls musical. It boasts an experienced team of creatives who are motivated to fill all the seats. Stuart Thompson and Lorne Michaels produced the show, with Kenneth Posner’s lighting, Scott Pask’s scenic design, Brian Ronan’s sound, Gregg Barnes’ costumes, and video design by Adam Young and Finn Ross. Other members of the creative team include music director Mary-Mitchell Campbell, orchestrator John Clancy, and music coordinator Howard Joines. The girls are made prettier on stage by make-up designer Milagros Medina-Cerdeira and hair designer Josh Marquette.

The story

Cady Heron spent most of her life in Kenya, doing fieldwork with her biologist folks. Although she enjoys her life there, she has a rudimentary, vague desire of living in the city. She moves to Chicago and joins North Shore High School, but struggles to find friends. She is befriended by Janis and Damian. Soon, The Plastics (Regina George and her friends) set their sights on her. To end The Plastics’ reign, Janis and Damian persuade Cady to infiltrate the group. However, she runs the risk of becoming one of them.

As the musical progress, Cady transforms, losing her crush and friends along the way of becoming popular. This results in Cady replacing Regina’s fame. A dethroned Regina is driven by revenge, as she releases the Burn Book. Cady has to face everything that is coming her way. Will she be able to recover from her plight? Can she mend all the broken bonds? The Mean Girls musical is a friendship anthem, which inspires female power, loyalty and staying true in life.
