Winner of five prestigious 2015 Tony Awards and seven 2013 Olivier Awards – including Best Director, Best Design and Best Play – this stunning production has wowed millions of people worldwide. Back by popular demand, the award-winning play returns for a UK and Ireland tour this Autumn. The tour launches at The Lowry in Salford and goes on to visit Bristol, Plymouth, Birmingham, Southampton, Edinburgh, Liverpool, Dublin, Belfast, Sunderland, Nottingham and Oxford. Further venues are to be announced. The tour also features a limited seven-week London run at Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre in Brent.

The Story

It is exactly seven minutes past midnight. A fifteen-year-old from Swindon, Christopher, is beside Mrs Shears’ dead dog, killed with a pitchfork. Mr Shears’ calls the police, and Christopher implicated. Despite this, Christopher documents the facts in a book to solve Wellington the dog’s puzzling death. Christopher has an amazing brain. Implied to be on the autism spectrum, he is outstanding at maths but poorly equipped to navigate everyday life. He lives a sheltered life, having never been beyond the end of his street alone. He hates being touched and distrusts strangers. However, Christopher’s investigative work into Wellington’s death takes him on a journey that turns his whole world upside down.

The creative team behind the production

Mark Haddon wrote the mystery novel The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time in 2003. The book went on to win over seventeen literary awards worldwide, including the distinguished Whitbread Book of the Year Award the following year. The novel has since sold over 5.5 million copies around the globe and has been translated into 44 languages. Simon Stephens (Sea Wall, Carmen Disruption) later adapted the story for the stage, which premiered at the National Theatre in the summer of 2012. The adaptation won five 2015 Tony Awards, including Best Play, and seven Olivier Awards in 2013.

Marianne Elliott (Angels in America, War Horse, Company) directs the current production, with Anna Marsland as Associate Director. Music is by Adrian Sutton, sound design by Ian Dickinson, while Scott Graham and Steven Hoggett are the Movement Directors. Bunny Christie is Production Designer, with lighting and video design by Paule Constable and Finn Ross respectively. Casting is by Jill Green, with casting to be announced.

The National Theatre and Trafalgar Theatre Productions present this tour of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time.
