Why You Should Watch The Glee Club

The Glee Club follows the story of a miner who fondly remembers the time he spent with his colleagues and friends in the summer of 1962. The members of the Edlington Miners’ Glee Club in Yorkshire work just as hard as they drink and make merry. They often sing at local clubs and events during the weekends, and they must now turn their attention to rehearsing for the upcoming Gala performance. The play is a heartfelt and almost visceral exploration of life, friendship, and loyalty in the harsh working conditions that miners endured during the 60s.

Playwright Richard Cameron manages to paint an insightful and honest picture of Yorkshire’s mining communities in The Glee Club. Cameron has written several other celebrated plays such as Pond Life (1992), The Mortal Ash (1994), and Almost Grown (1994). Bill Ward, who is best known for portraying Charlie Stubbs in the hit television series Coronation Street (2003), will play the part of Bant. The show features musical direction and sound design by Dyfan Jones, design by Mark Bailey, and direction by Kate Wasserberg.
