Why Watch The Son

Written by Florian Zeller, winner of 2 Olivier Awards and a Tony Award, The Son, talks about the consequences of a divorce, and its effect on other members of the family. Florian Zeller is considered to be one of the most talented playwrights of this generation, and his ability to capture the human condition is something that is unrivaled. A star-studded cast is all set to take the reigns of the show, and the play guarantees to be a wild success. Amanda Abbington, of Sherlock and Mr Selfridge fame, plays the role of the mother.

The story tackles the topics of mental illness and loss in a very relevant manner. It is a desperately heartbreaking tale of a teen who is finding it difficult to cope up with the bleak situation at home. The Son is the third installment of the trilogy written by Florian Zeller, following the critical success of the first two parts, ‘The Father’ and ‘The Mother.’

The Story

Nicolas, a teenager, has been going through a difficult time. Just two years previously, he was a smiling boy, after which everything he knew came crashing down. His parents go through a divorce, and Nicolas is far more affected by it than his parents know. His parents think he is attending school every day, as Nicolas skips classes. He stores strange items under his bed. He believes that moving into his father’s house with the new family might help. Discomfort and the realization that he isn’t wanted causes him to decide to go back to his mother. He hopes that this may be the answer. But what if it isn’t? Can Nicolas battle his way out of this despair that his parents assume is just the rebellious phase?
