The Watsons

Why Watch The Watsons

Emma Watson looks forward to getting married into an affluent family to guarantee a good life. She goes to a local ball and meets numerous potential candidates. Tom Musgrave, although handsome, is a flirt and womanizer. Lord Osborne, although an aristocrat, is rather timid. Howard, a clergyman is pompous. Who will Emma marry to escape from impending poverty, now that she no longer lives in her aunt’s home?

Created by Laura Wade, The Watsons is based on Jane Austen’s unfinished novel of the same name. Wade’s production was acclaimed for capturing Austen’s trademark wit, and for its ability to take the audience by surprise on numerous occasions. Samuel West, a multiple Olivier Award nominee, as both an actor and director, is in charge of the direction and gives the play a bold and clear narrative. Grace Molony and Louise Ford, who take on leading roles in the production, were critically acclaimed for their performances during the 2019 run at West End.
