What is Moulin Rouge About?

Aussie director Baz Luhrmann attempts to convey a rigorously accurate account of events that once took place in Paris’ infamous nightclub – Moulin Rouge. Luhrmann’s meticulously crafted and researched motion picture brings to light shocking facts previously unknown. The film’s plot revolves around its narrator and protagonist Christian (Ewan McGregor), a penniless writer who gets caught up in a circle of Bohemians planning to showcase a play at Moulin Rouge. He aims to deliver a tale that speaks nothing but the truth. Circumstances push him into the hands of Moulin Rouge’s racy spectacle, the courtesan Satine (Nicole Kidman). In an instant, they are smitten by each other. In this extravagant musical drama set in 1899 Paris, l’amour is an emotion to be celebrated and is at once transcendent.
