McDowall joined forces with the Royal Court in London’s West End in this latest play. The Glow will run through the early weeks of March 2022. The tickets are already available. Where History and Myth Meet Bone-Chilling Sci-Fi

The Glow Tickets will take you to 1863 Victorian England, into a world of spooky spiritualism. The story opens with an archly menacing Mrs Ryall, who practices as a spiritual medium. Lyall finds a nameless, mute woman thrown away in the darkest abyss of a mental asylum for her mysterious purposes. She then abducts her to act as her conduit in ominous rituals, leaving a hapless former servant to take her place in the shady bedlam. She takes The Woman, names her Cassie, and abuses her helpless situation, much to her spoilt, jealous son Mason. Much to the viewers’ surprise, Mrs Lyall seems to successfully establish contact with the dead as Cassie as her medium. But does she really have the power? Or is it The Woman that manifests greater power beyond Mrs Lyall can imagine?

Divulging any more secrets about the narrative will spoil the thrill for you. But all we can say is that the goings-on resembles the feeling of watching an episode of Dr Who, with a smattering of Caryl Churchill. It is utterly absorbing and exhilarating. As a storyteller, Allistair McDowall never makes it easy for the audience. The Glow is no exception. So, be prepared to experience some blood-curdling horror with a poignant theme to ponder even after.

A Fantastic Cast

Ria Zmitrowicz (The Woman) and Rakie Ayola (Mrs Lyall) do extraordinary jobs as lead characters. But the triumphant glory of The Glow was its technical aspects.
