Impressive views from a famous London landmark
Constructed between 1886 and 1894, Tower Bridge is a merged bascule and suspension bridge. It crosses the River Thames near the Tower of London and is a splendid example of British architecture and engineering.
Tower bridge includes two towers, which are held together by two horizontal walkways at the upper level. It is designed to endure the tension forces of the bridge’s suspended sections. Both pedestrians and vehicles can access the bridge deck. However, the towers, engine rooms and high-level walkways require tickets for entry. These are where the main points of attraction are.
One of the highlights of the Tower Bridge Exhibition is the glass bottom pedestrian walkway. It is 34 metres above the road and offers picturesque views of the banks and the bridge. Watch the river flow underneath you while you feel like you are floating on thin air standing on the glass floor. You can also see the different attractions along the London skyline. Plan your timings right to witness the historic bridge lift up. Visit the original engine room to discover the old steam engines used to power the mechanism until 1976. The Tower Bridge river cruise package is a great way to see this incredible feat of Victorian architecture, both inside and out.
